I was going to be starting a 3 year degree and I was always worrying about living in halls as I had never really been away from my parents. I chose Canterbury Christchurch university as it was only an hour from home so I could come back at weekends. (If this is something you are worried about, choose a uni nearer your home)
Fresher a week was fun, I attended quite a few events including, Hawaiian themed party, animal themed party, comedy night & a movie night! All of this I really enjoyed although it was hard to get to know people as most people stuck with there halls friendship groups.
I'm now in my last week of year 1, & I can say that I have throughly enjoyed my time here! Work has been tough at times but there have been loads of benefits. I have gained my independence, learnt how to cook well, use washing machine, iron & made friends! If you thinking about going to uni, do it! Don't hold back! 😆
I did sign up to many societies but only ever went to one for a term which was show choir. I didn't go every week as after a busy day I much preferred sitting in and watching a TV! I did go out for s drink with a friend every week at the student union which was always nice. Perks of being a student.... The food & drinks are cheap!
I started off at my journey at uni studying Education studies. I really disliked this & within 2 weeks moved to Early childhood studies which was more like what I had studied at college. (This is an option if your worried about liking your course) The course had hard modules but as look back over my first year I worked my way through them quite well, even though i did get stressed at times wanting to give up! As much as I loved being around my new friends I was much happier studying on my own as I really did not enjoy doing group presentations!
